Every day most of the world spends over 2 hours on social media. Apps like Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook, and more are scrolled through every day and each screen is tailored to its user to make the application more addictive. My song is making commentary on how social media has taken over our lives and how most of our private information has become public information.

I was inspired to write about this topic because of the recent Facebook allegations that exposed the tactic Facebook uses to draw people in. From how many times someone visits a person's page to what they like and dislike, Facebook knows and will arrange the person's feed so they are looking at things they want which keeps them on the app. This in turn makes Facebook more money so they can develop more tactics to draw people in.

Facebook isn’t the only company that does this. Tik Tok has swept the nation and has attracted younger users as well. Now more than just teens and adults are addicting to screens, preteens and younger also spend hours online.

My process for writing this song actually started in my sleep when I had a dream about me singing it. I woke myself up, recorded a voice memo of the tune, wrote down some lyric ideas, and quickly fell asleep. The next day I wrote more lyrics and a guitar tune to go along with the voice memo. When actually recording the song, I was able to record it in three-part harmony to get the style of the 1960s sound. Overall, I was really excited to work on this process because 60s rock is my favorite music to listen to.

Lyrics to Scroll, Scroll, Scroll

(3rd fret)

Am Am Am Em

He thinks he has all he needs from the 3 pictures on her feed

One’s married three kids and a dog and another lost his corporate job

Sally’s got a new boyfriend who only posts things on trend

And mike fell into the hole of the deep dark web

Am Am G

Give Give Give x2 to the life you pretend to live

Scroll scroll scroll x2 till it’s only things you wanna know

Am G D Am

Instead of talking face to face, we are changing the nature of the human race

The human race

Instead of knowing one another, we’re behind artificial color

Ohh we’re 6 feet under

Am Am Am Em

Days and hours on end she’s kept up tracking her friends

The little number in the corner gives her stress she can’t comprehend

The more she opens her feed the more she sees what she needs

But she’s blind to what they do to her behind the screen

Am Am G

Post Post Post x2 and watch what people like most

Send Send Send x2 and don’t log off till the very end

Am G D Am

Instead of talking face to face, we are changing the nature of the human race

The human race

Instead of knowing one another, we’re behind artificial color

Ohh we’re 6 feet under

(No Guitar)

Give Give Give, They want you

Scroll Scroll Scroll, They know you

Post Post Post, They own you

Send Send Send
